Feng Shui and the Colors in Your Home

Updated on May 5, 2010

The colors that you choose and its significance that will be used in painting the walls in your home sometimes is taken for granted. Whether repainting your shop or office as well, it is of great significance within the Feng Shui way of life.

Through the use of correct colors, you will be able to harmonize environments in order to make your everyday calmer, healthier and more prosperous. Through the age old Feng Shui Chinese philosophy, you can motivate a better environment by the use of certain colors throughout your home, shop and work area.

  • Hallway

This is where the inside of your home starts. It´s were you greet welcomed guests. The idea is to adjust the wall color according to the decoration that you have in this area.

The predominating color of those decorations is the color that you should choose but in lighter tones. This area should always be well lit.

  • Living Room

Soft green tones in this room are preferred and also the cuddling colors like cream color and light brown can be used. Never use blue because this color calms excessively the room. This is a place where you receive friends, but you do not want to have them feel excessively relaxed and stay there forever.

  • Kitchen

One or more tones of red in the kitchen help to sharpen the appetite. The green could be present in any environment including the kitchen.

  • Dining Room

In this area, what you want to transmit is for joyful conversations to take place and a good interaction among those who are relishing a good meal. Colors like yellow, orange and red can be used. Light tones are preferred, as with darker tones, they can provoke unwanted conversations.

  • Bath Room

The preferred colors for bathrooms are light green and blue for it represents water. The tub, toilet, sink and so should be of the same color or white.

  • Children’s Room

The preferred colors are light green, light blue and light rose. The green is considered a color of balance and health. The blue brings serenity and can calm restless children and reduces insomnia. Rose represents love and stimulates positive emotions towards the family.

  • Master Bedroom

In this case, as in the kid’s room, also the clear tones of green that is the color of stability and health can be used. Tones of a soft rose color stimulate love and romanticism so that the couple can feel pleasure in remaining together in this environment. Remember that orange and red in excess can provoke irritation and nervousness between the couple.

  • Office or Work Area

Yellow is the better chosen color for this area, since it activates the wisdom and intelligence in you. It also stimulates reasoning, intellectual work and your concentration capacity.
